When I read this article, I had to share. Get the inside on the more exclusive Met Ball and this seasons theme.
Anna Wintour obviously wasn’t best pleased with the outcome of last year’s punk-themed Met Ball, because this year she wants it to be significantly more exclusive – hence the grand Charles James theme and White Tie dress code that was recently announced.
It’s little surprise that Wintour wants this year’s event to be grander – it will mark the reopening of The Met’s famous Costume Institution, which has undergone a renovation since last year’s event and been renamed the Anna Wintour Costume Center in honour of the editor.
As such, Wintour has hiked the ticket prices for the gala up by $10,000 – from $15,000 (£9,000) to $25,000 (£15,000) – and given stricter guest list guidelines. Men must wear black tails and top hats, while women will be expected to don James-esque ball gowns.
So, who can we expect to make the cut? Lupita Nyong’o – current toast of Hollywood and the fashion world – will be in attendance to represent Prada, who dressed her for the Oscars. Downton Abbey actress Michelle Dockery will also partner with the Italian brand (she and Nyong’o share a stylist, Micaela Erlanger ). Zoe Saldana will be dressed by Prabal Gurung, Amanda Seyfried by Givenchy, Taylor Swift by J. Mendel, and Margot Robbie by Diane von Furstenberg, while Lanvin will host a “mystery celeb”. Actresses Jessica Chastain, Emilia Clarke, Naomi Watts, Jessica Pare and Allison Williams will also reportedly all be in attendance.
Despite the hefty ticket price, some stars could actually end up having a very lucrative night indeed. Rumour has it that some famous faces are being paid to represent lesser-known designers, and getting all of their travel, hotel and ticket costs covered.
